The Heart of Texas Urban Gardening Coalition ‘Harvest Celebration’ is going to be held on Thursday, June 3rd from 2:00 – 4:00 PM over at the Lake Shore Baptist Church garden. This event is going to gather students from around the Waco area together for one big afternoon, as an event primarily for the benefit of the children who have spent their time participating in school garden clubs. This event will also be held in support of the Summer Feeding Program and will include the collaboration of the McLennan County Hunger Coalition. During MLK Day of Service vegetables were planted and harvested, and these foods will be shared during the celebration. A variety of fun and exciting Gardening and Art activities will be taking place as well. Composting and Container Garden Workshop Demonstrations will be given for those interested. A light meal will begin around 2 PM which consists of salad and soup. At around 3 PM awards will be given to recognize students who participated in garden clubs, and even one student will go home with a George E. Wolfe, Jr. Urban Gardening Memorial Scholarship.
If you or someone you know wants to participate in these activities we gladly invite you to come join us (especially for the interested youth)! For more information, please contact HOTUGC VISTA Bethel Erickson at firstname.lastname@example.org
