MCHC Friends,

You may have heard that a powerhouse in creating food security for thousands of Wacoans has retired.

Our friend, Buddy Edwards with Caritas of Waco, has steered the course to eliminate food insecurity in Waco for a decade. Now, we wish him the best as he moves on to relaxation and a happy retirement. Although, we feel (And, hope!) that we will still see him around in our community doing what he does best–serving those in need.

For our Hunger Action Team (HAT), Buddy was our fearless leader. With his retirement, this left an obvious void in our leadership and advocacy efforts.

Today, we would like to announce Craig Nash will take the role of coordinating the work of the Hunger Action Team. Craig is the Regional Manager for Child Hunger Outreach for Texas Hunger Initiative at the Baylor Collaborative on Hunger and Poverty and has been an powerful voice in Waco advocating for childhood hunger since he came on board several years ago. He has also spent time as the Secretary on our Board and is a faithful friend of MCHC.

Craig said, “I am excited about this new opportunity to help both influence public policy, as well as advocate for our most vulnerable citizens in accessing all available resources. I am thankful for the work Buddy has given not just to this team, but also to our community.”

MCHC’s Hunger Action Team engages in advocating for hunger issues and concerns on the local, state and national levels. “My goals for this group are to expand its base and to implement sustainable action on behalf of those facing food insecurity.” Craig continues, “Now more than ever is a time when policies and regulations aimed at alleviating poverty and food insecurity are needed. I’m looking forward to joining this work with you.”

We are honored to have Craig lead HAT in the next stage of advocacy for MCHC. If you would like to learn more and be part of this conversation, please email Craig at
