About the McLennan County Hunger Coalition
MCHC collaborates with local pantries, businesses, congregations, food producers and individuals to provide food security.
Get Involved with MCHC
Learn more about MCHC’s efforts at our monthly meetings. These meetings are open to the public and are held at Caritas of Waco, 300 S. 15th, Waco, Texas 76701.
The MCHC participates in a food rescue partnership with Salvation Army and Baylor University Campus Kitchens. It is our goal to make sure that no prepared food should be wasted. A corps of food handler certified volunteers pick up prepared food from restaurants, cafeterias, and other sites, and deliver them to Salvation Army’s Community Kitchens where it is served, 3 times a day, 365 days a year.
Through the partnership with Grande Communications, MCHC strives to increase the capacity and visibility of the USDA’s Summer Meals programs.
The MCHC works with Waco ISD Child Nutrition Services to promote and develop their Pack of Hope weekend backpack program, which helps to feed children who are dependent on school meals even when school is not in session.
The MCHC strives to increase awareness of hunger and poverty in Waco and McLennan County through advocacy, alongside other community organizations including the Heart of Texas Homeless Coalition.
