SOS In The Paper
Apr 24
We’ve received three wonderful thank you letters from our friends at ACTS, STARS and WIC . Over the past few months the MCHC has used funds from the Valero grant to help support these organizations. All three of these organizations do great work and are working to better the community by serving children in some way. Thank you for everything all of you have done and keep up the good work.

World Hunger Relief, Inc. will host its Spring Farm Day Festival from 9am-4pm on Saturday, April 14.
During the week of March 12th through the 18th, thirty local college students from Baylor, MCC and TSTC decided to spend their Spring Break volunteering at the Kate Ross housing complex as day camp counselors for the newly created Catalyst program. Catalyst is a day camp sponsored by Acts Church of Waco and is a part of their Kidz Jam after school program. The Catalyst spring break day camp was created in order to give the youth groups of ACTS church an opportunity to spend their spring break doing positive and meaningful work in the community through volunteering.
The students who participated in Catalyst spent their mornings volunteering at various locations throughout Waco doing direct service projects. After the students finished their morning volunteer projects they went to the Kate Ross housing facilities to lead activities for the Catalyst spring break day camp. The day camp was open to all kids living at Kate Ross. One of the major expenses associated with the Catalyst program were the cost of meals throughout the week.
The MCHC has decided to use funds from the Valero grant and donate $2,000 to Acts church to cover the cost of meals for their Catalyst spring break day camp. The meals served at this program are important because many of the children attending the camp usually rely on free or reduced meals from school. The meal provided by the day camp is free to all children living in Kate Ross who are on spring break. Many of these children’s parents work full time and can’t stay home to cook for their kids during school breaks. The meal provided at Catalyst is also an added incentive for kids to participate in the day camp to get them to play outside and enjoy their spring break in positive and safe environment.
The MCHC hopes to continue this relationship with Acts Church and their afterschool programs by supporting their Spring Break program and their Storehouse Food Pantry.
